In celebration of 40 years of being the fine jeweller to Asia’s social elite, celebrities and royalty, La Putri is offering aspiring jewellery designers a chance to pursue their dreams with the La Putri Outstanding Jewellery Designer Competition 2013.
‘Through this competition, we hope to identify a local jewellery design talent and groom him or her for the world stage – to become the first world-renowned jewellery designer from Singapore,’ said Ms Goh Shuet Li, Director of La Putri. She added, ‘At the same time, we want to do our part to enhance and grow our city’s reputation as the region’s premium jewellery hub.’
Since the gemstone signifying 40th anniversaries is the ruby, designers are required to design a piece or set of jewellery using this precious stone, with former Miss Malaysia and Beam artiste Ms Andrea Fonseka in mind. As the official ‘face’ and one of the judges of the competition, Ms Fonseka comments, “A good statement piece transforms the entire look and feel of an ensemble! Because people travel so much more these days, I would love to see jewellery designed to match the occasion, as opposed to an entire wardrobe of different styles.”
Entries will be judged based on design concept, originality, creativity and market appeal, with the winner receiving SGD8000 and a trip to attend the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show in March 2014. Find out more at www.laputri.com, where interested participants may download the official entry form. Closing date for entry submission is 16 August 2013, with the winner receiving his or her award at La Putri’s 40th anniversary gala dinner in November.
