Herschel Backpacks & Tech Accessories
Named after a small town in Canada, Herschel Supply Co. is based in Vancouver and manufactures backpacks, bags, travel goods and accessories of the finest quality. The ruggedly good-looking backpacks are available in eye-catching primary colours and feature utilitarian pocket details that are great for outdoor activities. The brand also provides protection for your gadgets with its computer sleeves and iPad cases. The simple-chic Heritage line is fully padded and fleece lined, which is perfect for the down-to-earth geeky dad who prefers his tech accessories to look more wholesome than sleek.

Herschel Supply Co. products are stocked at Terra Plana (#02-04, Mandarin Gallery) with prices ranging from SGD59 to SGD159

J.Lindeberg Tassel Toff Loafer
When we last spoke of Swedish clothing label J.Lindeberg, we focused on the apparel and missed out on waxing lyrical on the equally covetable shoes. Like its clothes, the brand’s range of footwear is designed to reflect a ‘modern utility’ and updates tradition models with more contemporary shapes. From a classic brogue in elegant brown leather to pebble-soled carshoes in green plaid, the selection may not be large but is definitely well curated. Our favourite is the classically constructed Tassal Toff Loafer in luxurious calf leather. Straddling the line between formal and casual, it is designed for easy wearing and style.

The J.Lindeberg Tassel Toff Loafer is currently on sale and now retails for SGD449 (down from SGD529) at the brand’s flagship boutique located at #02-17, Mandarin Gallery

Rimowa Topas Cabin Multiwheel
Introduced back in the 1950s, the classic Rimowa Topas range is especially suitable for the tropics by protecting against high humidity and remaining unaffected by strong fluctuations in temperature. Made of strong aluminum and magnesium, it is easily one of the lightest and sturdiest luggage in the world and virtually indestructible. The Topas Cabin Multiwheel is the perfect carry-on size that will save dad the hassle of checking in luggage for his business flight. With this good-looker in tow, he will definitely be receiving many covetous glances from his fellow travellers.

The Rimowa Topas Cabin Multiwheel retails for SGD1500 at #02-19, Mandarin Gallery

J.Lindeberg – Gotland’s Finest

The wait is over. Swedish clothing label J.Lindeberg has officially opened its first menswear flagship store in Southeast Asia! Housed at Mandarin Gallery in the heart of Orchard Road, the boutique’s classy interior décor is a tribute to the architectural heritage of the brand’s Scandinavian roots, which is enhanced by strong contemporary touches. Spacious and arranged with redesigned vintage furniture, it is welcoming, organised and a pleasure to browse.

For its Spring/Summer 2012 collection, the brand invites you to travel to Gotland in the Baltic Sea, the largest island of Sweden. Inspired by Gotland’s beautiful landscape and cold northern climate, multi-functionality and utility are key elements of the clothes. By experimenting with shape, form and function, the resulting looks incorporate a “modern utility” and provided traditional fabrics with a new lease of life. An innovative approach to the construction of the clothes has also been taken in order to enhance the experience of the wearer. Laser-cut high performance Japanese fabrics are combined with clever taped details and cutting edge moisture repellent and transporting membrane technologies. Considering Singapore’s increasingly erratic climate and the higher frequency of sudden downpours, these pieces will definitely come in handy.

These practical clothes will also no doubt be great for travel. In neutral hues like grey, chalky white and beige, they are made to be mixed and matched whenever you need to live out of a suitcase while retaining their stylish edge. A must-have item for seasoned travellers is the “Concord Travel Wool” travelling blazer, which comes with hidden internal pockets for everything that you may need to carry.

With the opening of its new boutique, J.Lindeberg has introduced MediaCorp artiste Tay Ping Hui as its brand ambassador in Singapore. As one of the most well-dressed men in the local entertainment circle, his winning charisma seems a perfect fit with J.Lindeberg’s sharply modern aesthetic.

The J.Lindeberg Spring/Summer 2012 collection is available at the brand’s flagship store, located at #02-17, Mandarin Gallery. Prices start from SGD69 for a T-shirt and SGD639 for blazers
