After the high glamour of the A/W10 collections from the luxury brands, the offerings from the edgier street brands this season is refreshingly different. From quirky prints to military inspired details, cool multi-labels concept store Ambush has you covered. Stylish and wearable all at once, here are two labels you should be checking out right now – before the pieces fly right off the racks.
Eley Kishimoto
Widely lauded in the fashion industry as innovative forerunners in print designs, the partnership between Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto (husband and wife) has evolved from high profile collaborations with top fashion houses to what it is today – a quirky, whimsical womenswear and accessories label. Upholding their reputation as the ‘patron saints of print’, one can expect an eclectic mish-mash of patterns in their Autumn-Winter 2010 collection. Standing out from the pack is an attention-grabbing large polka-dotted print that persists throughout the lineup. Other than their signature graphic designs (including striking black and white zigzag stripes), you will also find a too-cute-to-pass-up squirrel print that embellishes separates and dresses. Fans of patterned tights will also be pleased with the selection of brightly coloured hosiery available in-store.
Uniform Experiment
Starting out as a project experiment by Japanese brand SOPH.co.,ltd, Uniform Experiment has developed into a formidable menswear force to be reckoned with in the street wear arena. The label’s UE Navy line features navy-inspired separates and sporty classics that display a close attention to details. Focusing on the quality use of prints, materials and cut, the collection advocates mixing elements of classic menswear (i.e. bowties) with more casual street pieces (i.e. sweatshirts and denim). Also look out for their very popular buttoned-down shirts, such as the Cotton Oxford Star Print B.D. Shirt. Made of premium cotton, these shirts will undoubtedly be excellent defence against a scorching hot day. If you are more of a t-shirt guy, man up with one of their navy-themed tees.
Both collections are available at Ambush (#03-14) Mandarin Gallery
